Sep 22, 2020 Well, to try and make a long story a little shorter I have a Murray riding mower from 2003. It has a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. Water got into the original switch and caused it to lock up. I put a new ignition switch in it but I never got around to testing it because the battery was dead and it was at a family members house.

Sep 25, 2020 Note: The parts list does it being wired the same as the brake/clutch switch which is incorrect. It contact positions is drawn backwards. The seat switch is common to both the brake switch and PTO circuit magneto kill circuit. Anyways what you are describing is defective ignition switches or the you have the wrong ones.

Jul 29, 2017 You are feeding power to the ignition. One wire should go from the battery, large terminal on the solenoid, to the B terminal on the switch. A second wire goes from the S terminal on the switch to the small terminal on the solenoid. It's possible your switch has failed, there should be no continuity between the M (magneto) terminal and the B.

My tractor is a craftsman 917.272056 with a kohler engine. When I replaced the solenoid, instead of being mounted to the frame with two bolts, the new kit uses a tab and a bolt.
